Rio is jumping with things to see. There
is a good collection of museums housing
everything from
20th
century Brazilian
art to information on Brazil's indigenous
people
The walking tour starts on the West side of Ipanema beach,
at the border with Leblon. We are walking East, towards
Arpoador and Copacabana.
There's much more to do at the beach than just working on
your tan. You may join locals on a match of beach soccer, or
beach volleyball. Footvolley/futevolei is a little harder if
you're a beginer, but you could always try. If you never
tried surfing, body boarding or skim boarding, you're
welcome to watch. The day to see Capoeira is Sunday, when
the beach lane is open for pedestrians only.
Highlights like the main street, spots of interest, people,
moods, and even pets that help give Ipanema its very special
character. Watch children playing in the parks, or go the
Hippie Fair for Brazilian handicraft, art, and musical
instruments, and original souvenirs.
From the beach it's 10 minutes on foot to Lagoa Park. Go
west past the Canal, and you are in Leblon - our charming
beach neighbor. And out West after Arpoador it's only
another 10 minutes on foot to Copacabana.

It is very easy to go to Arpoador from Ipanema. Just walk
along the beach and go east. Arpoador shares a beach with
Ipanema and Leblon . Francisco Bhering is the local Vieira
Souto.
Walking or cycling are the best options, as Francisco
Bhering is a pedestrian street. Near Rua Teixeira de Melo
you will pass by Casa Cultural Laura Alvim, a cultural
center. Take a look at what the afternoon specials are
before you go on.
Drink
plenty of liquids. Cariocas would stop for a chilled coconut
($1.50, beer, or even mineral water at any of the kiosks
along all beaches and Lagoa as well.
